UPDATE: Kutcher has essentially confirmed the news with this cheeky tweet: "what's the square root of 6.25?" I bet you can already guess it's Two and a Half. And EW has a statement from CBS also confirming the news, including this quote from Kutcher: “I can’t wait to get to work with this ridiculously talented 2.5 team and I believe we can fill the stage with laughter that will echo in viewers’ homes. I can’t replace Charlie Sheen but I’m going to work my ass off to entertain the hell out of people!”
Two and a Half Men has a new leading man. CBS hasn't issued an official statement (yet) but word is, a deal has been struck and the man set to replace Charlie Sheen in the CBS series is none other than Ashton Kutcher.
Since Charlie Sheen’s controversial departure from the CBS sit-com, there’s been plenty of speculation over who might be brought in to fill the void. Earlier this week it was reported that Hugh Grant was in the running for the role, however the deal fell through. Deadline reported tonight that they received word that negotiations have wrapped up for former That ‘70’s Show star Ashton Kutcher to serve as one of the titular “men” in Two and a Half Men.
Kutcher made a name for himself on That ‘70’s Show and went on to build his career both on and behind the camera, adding various big screen acting roles to his resume, while also producing TV shows including Beauty and the Geek and the popular celebrity prank show Punk’d.
Kutcher’s more than ten years younger than Sheen, which could play a factor in how they write his character. We’ll have to see how it all pans out. Regardless, it’ll be interesting to see how he’s received when he steps into the show. I don’t think there will be much of a gray area here as people are likely to love him or else reject him (and/or a Men without Sheen) completely and the Two.0 and a Half Men will fizzle out. Either way, it’s worth a shot and Kutcher seems like a solid bet to breathe new life into the show.
