Baseball, Buses, And A Bevy Of Dreams
At any given moment, there are millions of little boys dreaming of growing up and playing professional baseball. Eventually, most realize how much they suck, but for those that sojourn on, it’s an almost impossible road. Players endure long bus rides, minuscule paychecks, and the intense doubt that comes with wondering if they will ever make it to ‘The Show.’ One network is ready to bring this emotional roller coaster of anguish, exuberance, and doubt to the small screen.
Starting tonight, MOJO (that’s one of the Hi-Def channels) will begin airing a six part reality/documentary on a group of Arizona Diamondback's AAA players attempting to take the last step to the big leagues. The show will be narrated by Joe Mantegna (Airheads, The Simpsons Movie). The six players profiled cover a wide array of backgrounds and talent levels, from hot-shot prospects to grinders willing to do anything for their shot. One of them is even married to softball hottie Jennie Finch. She better be interviewed at some point during this series, or I’m probably going to write a vicious letter to the foolhardy producers.
I actually think this show has a lot of potential. All of these guys have a realistic shot of eventually breaking through; however, when and how they do so is completely up in the air. This should create incredibly highs and Earth-shattering lows. Plus, it’s produced by Al Roker, the only weather man who’s never wronged me in the past. Expect lots of chewing tobacco, a few of these guys to eventually get called up, and at least one grown man crying.
'The Show' premieres May 30 at 10PM, ET/PT on MOJO.
