New Behind The Candelabra Trailer Gives Us More Background On Liberace's Lover
Steven Soderbergh’s intriguing-looking Liberace biopic, Behind the Candelabra, is hitting the small screen later this month, thanks to a partnership with HBO. The subscription cable network has been gearing up for months for the release of the film, which is based on an autobiograpy written by Scott Thorson and stars Michael Douglas as Liberace and Matt Damon as Thorson. We’ve been privy to plenty of glittering previews and trailers in the past, but none quite like the one released on Monday.
The U.K. trailer for the film is a little less flashy than the ones we’ve seen for the HBO release, but follows the same basic trajectory of boy meets boy, boy employees boy, boy falls in love with boy, and then some crazy events go down. Some of the big moments that have been teased at in the past, including Thorson taking on a similar appearance to Liberace, are present in this trailer, as well. However, we also get a few more moments with Thorson and those in his life, chiding him for the role he has taken on as Liberace’s companion, brother, lover, and even father figure.
If you live in the U.K., the trailer notes you’ll be able to catch the movie in cinemas beginning on June 7. Here in The States, you’ll be able to view Behind the Candelabra on HBO, beginning on May 26 at 9 p.m. ET. If you are super stoked about the biopic, HBO has already released “The Making of Behind the Candelabra,” which is available via HBO Go, as well as the network.
