Bernadette Peters Will Return To Smash In Season 2

One of the many great things about NBC's musical drama Smash was Bernadette Peters, who guest starred in the series' first season last winter. Word is, the Broadway and film star will be back in the drama's second season, which is set to premiere on NBC next year.

As one of numerous guest stars who appeared during Season 1 of Smash, Bernadette Peters played Ivy's successful mother Leigh Conroy. Given her background in theater and film, Peters was a perfect fit for the NBC drama, which follows the making of a Broadway musical and the young rising stars hoping to star in it. According to Vulture, Peters will be back in the series' second season, which is expected to start filming soon. There aren't any details about how Peter's role factors into the story next season, but we should expect to see her at some point midway through Season 2.

In Smash, Peters' character Leigh Conroy had her own Broadway success, which only added to the pressure Ivy was under to succeed and follow in her mother's footsteps. Of course, things weren't looking so good for Ivy at the end of the series' first season, so we'll have to wait and see what state she's in when the show returns next year. Perhaps Leigh will return to offer her daughter some support. Regardless of why she's back, as a fan of her work, I'm very happy to hear this news - and I hope she sings!

Peters joins Jennifer Hudson, Jeremy Jordan, Jesse L. Martin, and Sean Hayes among the newcomers set to make an appearance in Smash next season.
