Beverly Hills Cop TV Pilot Casts Christine Lahti

We haven't heard much news about the Beverly Hills Cop TV sequel since the project found its lead in stand-up comedian Brandon T. Jackson. Today comes word that Law & Order: Special Victims Unit's Christine Lahti has joined the cast of the project. And it sounds like she'll be playing the lead character's eventual boss.

As of last year, Tropic Thunder's Brandon T. Jackson was set up to play the lead role of Aaron Foley in Shawn Ryan and Eddie Murphy's planned Beverly Hills Cop drama pilot. The project will serve as a sequel to the films and focus on the son of Axel Foley (Murphy's character from the movies), Aaron, a cop who heads off to Beverly Hills in an effort to get out from under his father's shadow. EW says Lahti has signed on to the CBS project to play the Beverly HIlls Police Department captain.

If the drama goes to series, we should expect to see the occasional appearance by Eddie Murphy, but from what's been reported, it sounds like the bulk of the show would focus on his character's son and the people he'll fight crime with, which presumably includes Lahti's character. Lahti's previous credits include a major role in Chicago Hope back in the 90s, and more recently, recurring roles in Law & Order: SVU and Hawaii Five-0. Word of her casting may be an indication that they're starting to sign on more people to this project, which hopefully means we should expect additional updates in the near future. We'll definitely keep you posted.
