The Big C Season 1 Finale Preview: Taking The Plunge

Showtime’s The Big C has to be the most emotionally confusing show on television right now (in a non-frustrating, brilliant sort of way). Next Monday, the series will wrap up its first season and we have some good news to go along with these preview clips!

Read no further if you’re not caught up on the series (this includes yesterday’s episode)!

The good news is that The Big C will be back for another season! So let’s hope that means there’s at least a little good news for Cathy after she subjected herself to bee stings (and some awkward dancing with Liam Neeson) in an effort to cure her cancer. The cancer part is terrible but let’s face it, I think a lot of us might consider being stung repeatedly by bees just to have the opportunity to dance awkwardly in a bar with Liam Neeson but that’s neither hear nor there. He wasn’t the one she locked lips with that night, anyway. (Drama!) And as this series is nothing if not a complete and total emotional rollercoaster, the finale next Monday will include more on the story of Marlene’s death. I’m sad to see her go and wonder how the show will do without her in Season 2.

Let’s not think too far ahead, though. There’s one episode left for this fantastic new series’ first season and below are some clips from the episode.

As surprising moment at Marlene’s funeral…

And this scene’s funny to me…

I don’t know if it’s because Cathy and Paul seem more emotional after watching Where the Red Fern Grows than they were in the funeral clip or what but there’s something strangely realistic about both of the clips above. Maybe it's just easier to purge emotions at the end of an exceptionally emotional movie (whether happy or sad) than it is to really let go at a formal occasion like a wake or a funeral.

The Big C airs on Mondays at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime.
