The Black-Eyed Peas Will Perform At Super Bowl Halftime
The Super Bowl Halftime Show hasn’t always been an extravaganza. Before 1993, it predominately featured marching bands or tributes to Disney or people figure skating to Gloria Estefan. Then Michael Jackson tore the roof off The Rose Bowl and somehow increased ratings. That’s right. More people tuned in to watch MJ sing “Billie Jean” and “Black Or White” than to watch the Bills get decimated for the third straight year. Poor Thurman Thomas. But yay for progress. Here we are seventeen years later, and we’re discussing this year’s halftime band months ahead of time.
According to The Associated Press, next year’s lucky band is the Black-Eyed Peas. While maybe not carrying the name recognition of a Springsteen or Petty, the Black-Eyed Peas somehow topped the charts an astounding seventeen weeks in a row with their singles “Boom Boom Pow” and “I Gotta Feeling”. So, even if you’re personally not down, be aware a lot of other people are, the types of people who might not be watching the Super Bowl otherwise.
There’s always a choice to be made. Either please your older, male fanbase by choosing legends like The Who or The Rolling Stones or try and appeal to an entirely different fanbase and pick someone like Janet Jackson. We all remember how that one turned out. Don’t expect an oh shit moment this time around, but do expect the Peas to be on a solid, energetic teenage-friendly show.
