Blue Collar Vet To Play TBS Therapist
America has seen its share of TV therapists: Dr. Frasier Crane, (‘Frasier’) Dr. Katz (‘Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist’), and Dr. Jennifer Melfi (‘The Sopranos’). Now TBS looks to add one more name to this esteemed roster by launching ‘The Bill Engvall Show’ this summer starring (you guessed it!) Bill Engvall.
Yes, Bill Engvall, of ‘The Jeff Foxworthy Show,’ ‘Blue Collar TV’ and all that noise. According to TV.com, Engvall plays a no-nonsense family therapist named Will Knowles whose own family may need a bit of counseling as well. How ironic! Nancy Travis portrays his spouse, who like most TV wives these days, tries to keep their three kids maturity process a-ok amid daddy’s assuredly irresponsible but humorous antics.
Also attached according to IMDB.com, are Leslie Odom (‘Vanished), Skyler Gisondo (‘CSI’), and Jennifer Lawrence (‘Monk’).
TBS ordered eight episodes as part of its recent comedy fetish. Last fall the station premiered its first original scripted comedy series with ‘My Boys’ as well as supermarket satire ‘10 Items or Less.’ Engvall will script the series, but with help from TV vet Michael Leeson, whose writing resume stretches back to such classics as ‘The Cosby Show,’ ‘Happy Days’ and ‘All in the Family.’
While the summer is still a ways off, check out Engvall below in one of his hilarious stand-up routines:
