Fox's Bones will be launching into its seventh season this week -- can that be right? -- and to promote the show's return the network has released a new teaser highlighting one specific element of the show. Is it the gruesome murders? The canny crime-solving? The witty repartee? Wrong on all counts; it's about the love.
Yes, it's a cute little celebration of the seasons-long journey to romance for Special Agent Seely Booth (David Boreanaz) and Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel). Like any good potential TV couple, they've played the will-they-or-won't-they game for years, and now Bones has got a bun in the oven. Wait, does that metaphor even work? A tibia in the oven, maybe?
At any rate, I bailed on Bones a few episodes into the first season, so I don't have a horse in this race. That said, I can't help but chuckle a little at the style of this teaser. I realize the soft-focus-to-denote-flashback thing is an old trick, but here it just makes everything seem kind of, well, cheesy. Besides, I think all time leaps should be symbolized with the Lost Flashback Swoosh from now on.
Bones is back this Thursday night, November 3rd, at 9/8 c on Fox.
