The Borgias Picked Up For Season 2

Who knew a drama series about a Pope would be a success? I suppose when the Pope happens to be extremely corrupt, it adds a few extra layers of intrigue. If you’ve been enjoying Showtime’s The Borgias, there’s good news. Showtime ordered a second season!

The Borgias airs Sunday nights and stars Jeremy Irons as Rodrigo Borgia a.k.a Pope Alexander VI. The series takes place during the Renaissance era and it’s soon revealed that Pope Alexander is ambitious to the point of corruption, and has children and a mistress. These things may be perceived as fairly un-Pope-like by the traditional Catholic standards. The story also follows the pope’s children and their place in their father’s life, religion and politics.

TV Line posted the news today, stating that Showtime announced that they’ve picked up The Borgias for a second season, giving the show a 10-episode order for Season 2. Production is set to begin this summer and Season 2 will likely air in 2012
