Brokaw To Return For Election Night Coverage
As if the midterm elections weren’t already getting enough attention, Tom Brokaw will return to the NBC ‘Nightly News’ the night of November 7. Brian Williams, Brokaw’s successor, will anchor the broadcast with the help of both Brokaw and senior political analyst Tim Russert of ‘Meet the Press.’
Coverage by the triumvirate will begin at the traditional ‘Nightly News’ time of 6:30 PM EST live from NBC’s Rockefeller Plaza. TV.com reports that hourly updates will then follow on the status of the votes starting at 8:00 PM EST. The Peacock Network will then cap its election coverage with a ‘Decision 2006’ special from 10-11 PM EST. Barring any pesky too-close-to-call snafus, the majority of each state’s electoral results should be readily apparent by the end of the broadcast.
Brokaw stepped down from ‘Nightly News’ in December of 2004 after a distinguished career that began on September 5, 1983 when he took over as sole anchor of the news program. However, NBC did announce following Brokaw’s retirement that he would remain with the network through 2014 serving as an occasional analyst and producing documentary programs.
