CBS Dumps Jericho

Jericho fans went out of their way last year to get CBS to give the series another chance. They flooded the network with nuts in an effort to get the network to change their minds and it worked. CBS brought Jericho back for another season but apparently the ratings just weren’t good enough and the network has decided to cancel it (again).

It seems the producers knew there was a good chance that the show might not get a third season or perhaps they just figured better safe than sorry because according to The Hollywood Reporter, they shot two endings for the seventh and final episode of the second season. One ending would leave viewers in suspense (similar to how the first season ended) and the other one would serve as a series finale if the show did indeed get the ax. It looks like that second ending is the one they’re planning to use for this Tuesday’s episode.

CBS said in a statement, “Without question, there are passionate viewers watching this program; we simply wish there were more. We thank an engaged and spirited fan base for keeping the show alive this long, and an outstanding team of producers, cast and crew that went through creative hoops to deliver a compelling, high quality second season. We have no regrets bringing the show back for a second try. We listened to our viewers, gave the series an opportunity to grow, and the producers put a great story on the screen. We're proud of everyone's efforts.”

I know there are a lot of people who love Jericho. In fact, my husband is one of them. I think the problem with the show in terms of developing a bigger audience was the fact that despite the great writing and acting, the series was kind of a downer. I started watching it when it first premiered but then the show went on hiatus from December to February and I just stopped tuning in when it returned with new episodes. People kept dying and it seemed like no one was ever happy. I suppose that’s the nature of a show like this but still, I just didn’t think there was enough incentive to keep tuning in (even after people kept saying how great the series was).
