It’s not often that networks use the coveted post-Super Bowl timeslot to premiere a new show but it seems CBS is trying something a bit unconventional next February. The network announced today that they will be unveiling the premiere of their new reality series Undercover Boss immediately following the Super Bowl.
Set to premiere following the big game, which takes place on Sunday, February 7th, Undercover Boss follows chief executives as they work anonymously among the lower-level employees of their companies, giving them a chance to see how the decisions they make affect the little-guy. The first episode, which is scheduled to air on Sunday, February 7, 2010 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/7:00-8:00 PM, PT, time approximate after Post Game coverage) will center on Larry O’Donnell, the president of Waste Management. He’ll spend some time collecting garbage from a landfill, cleaning porta-potties and sorting waste at a recycling plant. CBS also says he’ll have the experienced of being fired for the first time in his life.
"Everyone has daydreamed about watching the boss do their job," said Nina Tassler, President, CBS Entertainment. "The journey of watching a chief executive walk a mile in their employees' shoes is always very revealing, often humorous and, in some cases, very inspiring."
According to the Hollywood Reporter, a network hasn’t aired a new program following the Super Bowl broadcast since 2005 when they premiered American Dad alongside an episode of The Simpsons. Before that, the last new show to air on it’s own (without the help of a trusted and loved series like The Simpsons) was back in 1995 when ABC premiered the show Extreme after the big game. Remember that show? (Yeah, me neither).
Undercover Boss will move to its regularly scheduled timeslot on Sunday, February 14, 2010 (9:00-10:00 PM).
