CNN Plans King A Week Long Tribute

It seems like just yesterday that I sat and listened to Larry King’s first radio broadcast in 1957. Wait, 1957! That was about thirty years prior to my conception. Hell, my parents weren’t even born yet. That’s an unfathomable amount of time for my twenty year old muckraking mind to comprehend. Over the last five decades, King has witnessed brouhahas, talked with world leaders, and married an obscene amount of times. All pretty impressive for a suspender obsessed ageless wonder.

A little over fifty years ago, the interview extraordinaire landed his dream job, cleaning up after DJs at a local Miami Beach radio station. Luckily for Larry, some on air talent quit, and he opportunistically, volunteered to fill in. Listeners soon fell in love with his nonjudgemental, laid back demeanor. Promotions began piling up until eventually his radio show was heard coast to coast. In 1985, King joined ‘CNN’ and has been at it ever since.

‘CNN’ announced that they will run a week long series of programs paying tribute to the wry curmudgeon. The extravaganza will include special guests, a two hour retrospective, and scores of bonus online content. I’m not really sure how many average King fans peruse the world wide web for added features, but whatever floats your boat, ‘CNN.’

The cable news giant's week long tribute is scheduled as follows:

Monday- Interview with Oprah Winfrey. 9-10 P.M. Eastern

Tuesday- King will be interviewed by journalist Katie Couric. 9-10 P.M. Eastern

Wednesday- ‘Larry King-50 Years Of Pop Culture.’ 9-11 P.M. Eastern

Thursday- Interview with Bill Clinton. 9-10 P.M. Eastern

Friday- Bill Maher and over twenty unannounced guests. 9-10 P.M. Eastern

Saturday and Sunday- ‘Larry King-50 Years Of Pop Culture.’ 8-10 P.M. Eastern

Congratulations Larry. You truly are the last and best of a dying breed.
