The CW Gives Medical Drama The First Cut A Pilot Order

While it’s difficult to make a strong argument for why TV needs another medical drama, the pilot the CW recently ordered sounds like it could prove to be a good fit for the network, and Jennie Snyder Urman’s involvement in it certainly does strengthen the argument.

Variety posted the news today that the CW has ordered a drama pilot called First Cut by Jennie Snyder Urman. The premise follows a young doctor who believes she’s headed toward adulthood, only to learn that the hospital where she’s started working isn’t much different than high school. Given the drama and gossip that flies around Seattle Grace on Grey’s Anatomy, it sounds like the set-up falls into similar territory as the ABC series. Still, young doctors (and possibly nurses, orderlies and/or patients too) with drama sounds like something that could work on The CW.

Jennie Snyder Urman is no stranger to the CW. Her writing/producing credits include numerous episodes of 90210, as well as The WB/CW’s Gilmore Girls. Other recent credits include the screenplay for the film Something Borrowed.

First Cuts joins Greg Berlati’s Arrow, The Carrie Diaries (Sex and the City prequel), the Beauty and the Beast reboot and Josh Schwartz’ Cult among the pilots previously ordered by The CW. We’ll have to wait and see if The First Cut makes the cut. (Sorry.)
