Will The Canary Sisters Reunite In Arrow Season 4?

Laurel Lance watched her sister die in the Arrow Season 3 premiere, and while tragic, Sara’s death pushed Laurel to embrace her destiny and become the Black Canary. Of course, those of you looking forward to the upcoming series Legends of Tomorrow know that Sara is being brought back to life by the Lazarus Pit as one of the heroes fighting Vandal Savage and his massive army. Before that battle, however, Arrow viewers may get to see the sisters together again in Season 4, though not necessarily under the best of circumstances.

While confirming that he will remain a series regular in Season 4, Malcolm Merlyn actor John Barrowman coyly teased to fans at the Las Vegas Comic-Con this past weekend that we may see a possible reunion between the Canaries. In Barrowman’s words:

We start filming in July, Season 4. I just finalized my deal about a week ago so… it was just about working out dates and stuff. So, I’m very excited about going back. I can’t tell you anything, because I do know a bit of what’s gonna happen, but if you love Malcolm Merlyn, if you love Oliver Queen, if you love Thea Queen, if you love the Canary sisters … I say that with a bit of a twist and a joke, you’re gonna love what’s gonna happen across the DC world.

Although there’s a scene in the Legends of Tomorrow trailer of Sara rising from the Lazarus Pit, it hasn’t been confirmed whether her resurrection will happen in the 2016 series or during the first half of Arrow Season 4, though Malcolm, a.k.a. the newly christened Ra’s al Ghul, likely has something to do with it. Even though Laurel knows about the Pit’s healing properties, seeing her sister alive will undoubtedly be emotionally staggering. She already hallucinated fighting her sister under the influence of Vertigo in the episode “Canaries,” and it’s possible Barrowman may be hinting at another hallucination/dream scenario. Even if this is an actual reunion, despite living in a world filled with superpowers and mysticism, Laurel may not believe her eyes if she sees Sara in front of her.

In the Season 3 finale, Oliver left Laurel, Diggle and Thea in charge of watching over Starling City. Something is going to draw Oliver back home (possibly involving Thea), and Laurel and the rest of Team Arrow will be there to help him deal with the organization H.I.V.E. and its leader Damien Darhk. As for Sara, whenever she is revived, she’ll be taking the White Canary identity, and it’s been hinted that unlike Thea (who only experienced a little memory loss), the Pit’s side effects will be more significant for Sara.

Arrow will return with new episodes this fall in its normal timeslot on The CW.
