Community Season 4 Adds Malcolm McDowell To Guest Star

In case you hadn't heard, Community Season 3 is now available on DVD. As I've been working my way through the first of what I anticipate to be many DVD re-watches of the most recent season of the NBC series, it's become even more apparent that Season 4 has a lot to live up to. Just about every episode of Season 3 adds its own slice of excellence, creativity and humor to the series. With Dan Harmon out as show runner going forward, we'll have to wait and see how Community does without him, and whether the series will be able to transition and continue to evolve as it has been thus far. The latest bit of news for Season 4 has Malcolm McDowell joining the comedy in a guest-starring role.

The Hollywood Reporter shared the news, stating that McDowell has signed on to play Professor Cornwallis, a history professor in Season 4. HIstory seems to be the subject of the season, as the first episode of Season 4 is titled "History 101" (following previous seasons' "Biology 101," "Anthropology 101" and "Spanish 101") McDowell's role is a vague description, but it's still an exciting piece of news. That said, we probably shouldn't get used to seeing him around the Greendale Community College campus, as he's only set to appear in two episodes of the series.

McDowell's credits go back decades and include A Clockwork Orange, but in more recent years, Easy A and the part of Daniel Linderman on Heroes. Most recently, he's been playing Stanton Infeld on TNT's Franklin & Bash. McDowell isn't the only actor from across the pond to join Community in a guest starring role in Season 4. Other recent casting news has Matt Lucas joining the show for a guest arc, also playing a professor, as it happens. It should be interesting to see what both actors bring to the show.

Community returns October 19 to its new time slot on Friday nights.
