Through a combination of magic, fan support, and the ludicrously premised Work It sucking, Cougar Town is going to return sooner than we all dared to dream. When the show did not appear on ABC’s midseason roster, TV Blend was hopeful the series would come back in March. Luckily, we will now get it much sooner than that. Cougar Town is heading back to ABC on Valentine’s Day.
If that day seems a little strange, being a Tuesday and all, it is. Cougar Town normally runs on Wednesdays, but with the schedule shift, it is hopping back a day. This is likely due to the program directly taking the place of Work It, which aired exactly two episodes during ABC’s Tuesday lineup. Therefore, the triumphant return of Cougar Town will occur on Tuesday, February 14 at 8:30 p.m. ET. Keep your DVRs posted.
With the new buzz surrounding the show post the whole Work It drama, I hope a shift in days will be just the ticket to get the show back on a roll. After low ratings, ABC dropped the number of Cougar Town episodes from 22 down to 15. So, even though it is great news the program is coming back, it still has a ways to go before it is totally out of hot water. Plan to tune in faithfully if you want a full-length season, next year. According to EW, instead of Modern Family, Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing will be Cougar Town’s lead-in. While the show won't get the crazy boost Modern Family likely gave it, if anyone is going to come through in the clutch, I would bet on Tim Allen. All Cougar Town really needs is some staunch fans and a little crossover appeal to ensure it is on the right track.
