Could Agent Carter Appear On Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D?
Agent Carter has always had key connections to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and fans would probably go crazy if the show found some way to bring the character on to the longer-running Marvel drama. S.H.I.E.L.D. was actually recently renewed for Season 4, leading to some speculation that perhaps Agent Carter as a character could somehow make an appearance on S.H.I.E.L.D.. In a recent interview, Jed Whedon revealed that there is room for Agent Carter to pop up on his series, should the show want to go in that direction again.
What we can take out of this comment is there are no current plans for Agent Carter or any of her compatriots to be worked into the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. plot at this point. However, down the line that could very well change, especially if Agent Carter doesn’t earn a renewal order, like Jed Whedon obviously hopes it will.
Other showrunner Maurissa Tancharoen also spoke with THR about the potential, noting that the idea isn’t impossible.
The future of ABC’s Agent Carter is very much up in the air at this point. While Season 2 of the midseason replacement drama had a solid storyline and wrapped up on an intriguing note for the characters, it did not really do all that well in the ratings on the network. Likely because of this, while ABC has been happy to renew a slew of its originals for next season, Agent Carter wasn’t on the list. If the show doesn’t come back, Hayley Atwell does already have another pilot lined up, but she should hopefully still have time for a guest stint, should the other Marvel series want her.
Of course, there are certainly logistical issues to including Agent Carter on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It’s 1947 when the second season of the drama airs, while Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is currently airing a storyline in the present day. Hayley Atwell has proven to be a champ and has been shown at numerous ages in movies like Ant-Man and Captain America: The Winter Soldier and has gamely even appeared as a hallucination in Avengers: Age of Ultron. If S.H.I.E.L.D. really wanted to find a way to use Peggy Carter, the show could probably figure it out. Whether or not they will eventually be able to work an initial idea into the major plot threads of the series remains the big question. This would also be more exciting if it hadn't already happened.
After an extended winter hiatus, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. just returned to the schedule, airing on Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. ET, only on ABC. We’ll let you know as soon as ABC makes a final decision regarding Season 3 of Agent Carter, as well.
