Couric Prepares To Say Farewell To Today

When most people switch jobs, they don’t get farewell performances from singers like Tony Bennett, Martina McBride or Broadway cast members. Then again, Katie Couric isn’t “most people”. After 15 years, Couric’s reign as morning show queen has come to an end, but will she be able to tone down her bubbly personality for her new position as anchor on CBS news?

Former CBS News anchor, Dan Rather sounds positive about Couric’s ability to deliver the evening news to the American people. He told the Associated Press that he was really rooting for her but also said in order for her to be successful she will need to be a leader and demonstrate passion for the news. Couric has been attempting to play down the hype that’s been built up since the announcement that she would be the new CBS Anchor. Her general attitude in recent interviews has been very positive about the new position but she denies that her role as anchor will be a “second coming” of network news.

With footsteps like Rather’s to follow, Katie has a big job ahead of her. She might not be able to mask an on-air blunder with a flash of her million-dollar-dimples and will probably have to tone down her behavior a bit. It will be interesting to see how much of ‘Today’-Katie is left after a few months on the evening news.

Couric’s last day on ‘Today’ is Wednesday. She will be taking June off and beginning her new job in July.
