Cowboys-Redskins Game Earns Highest Sunday Night Football Ratings Ever
It worked out well for NBC.
Sunday Night Football had a good night on NBC last night. In fact, the prominent NFL showdown had its best night ever. Last night’s game featured the Cowboys matching up against the Redskins in an epic battle with a slew of fans on both ends. It was the Redskins that eventually pulled through with the victory, as well as the more dominant market share.
Last week’s Cowboys versus Giants match-up actually popped up on NBC’s most watched Sunday Night Football game list. That game did a 17.1 rating, which is impressive. However, this week’s game managed to top even those numbers, increasing in the ratings 7% to an 18.3 overnight rating. Unsurprisingly, the avid Redskins fanbase also crushed last night. The Washington D.C. market did a 44.6 rating. You can tell how many avid Redskins fans there are just by looking at the numbers. Both Norfolk and Richmond also pulled in pretty intense numbers, leaving Dallas in fourth place with a 36.9 rating.
Last night’s game had a lot on the line. The winner would win the division and make the playoffs and the loser would have a long summer of wondering what if. Luckily for the Washington D.C. crowd, the Skins got their act together and took care of business, besting the Cowboys by a score of 28 to 18. It’s unlikely either team would have done anything in the postseason, but it’s kind of nice that Robert Griffin III and the rest of the Redskins still have a shot to make a mark.
