Deon Cole's Black Box Gets A June Premiere Date At TBS
If you're a regular viewer of TBS' late night talk show Conan, you should be familiar with Deon Cole. The comedian and writer appears on occasion, often to offer a more diverse perspective on current events and other matters. It's been almost a year since we heard he was lining up his own series at TBS. With so much time passing, we were left to wonder if the series was actually happening. Today, TBS confirms that it is, and they've given it a premiere date and a teaser that features the star of this new comedy talk show.
Deon Cole's Black Box is a half-hour series, which will premiere Monday, June 10 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. The show will have Cole offering his take on popular video clips. That description makes it sounds like TBS is looking to have its own Tosh.0, which may very well be the case. But just as Daniel Tosh has his own signature brand of snarky sarcasm, Deon Cole's sense of humor is different, which would be enough to give his show its own tone, even if the emphasis turns out to be on viral videos.
TBS has given the show a six-episode order, but if ratings are good for it, perhaps they'll pick up more. The series, which is being produced by Conaco LLC and executive produced by Conan O'Brien, Jeff Ross and David Kissinger, as well as Cole and Doug Karo, already has a website, though there's nothing on it just yet. As a fan of Cole, particularly in the way he interacts with Conan on the TBS talk show, I'm eager to see how the does with his own show. Here's one of my favorite segments from Conan featuring Cole.
