The Drama Queen: 24 Season Finale

Jack Bauer’s had another really bad day. The fifth season of ‘24’ came to a close in a two hour finale which was chock full of sex, lies and videotape (or technically, streaming video because who uses videotape anymore?). If you haven’t yet fired up the DVR to watch the last few hours of this season, read no further. However if you did catch the season finale of ‘24’, sit back and join me in a brief recap of some of the highlights of the episode.

Just when you think you’ve seen all of Jack Bauer’s insane fighting moves, he goes and surprises us by doing something completely unexpected like shoving a knife straight into the neck of a bad-guy. That nameless henchman never saw it coming. He uses his legs to break Bierko's neck! Then he tops it of by killing Christopher in cold blood, dedicating the act to Palmer, Tony and Michelle. I was wondering if there might be repercussions for that because the soldier saw him but seeing as Jack’s on a boat headed to China, its safe to say he’s got bigger problems to deal with.

Chloe has an ex-husband? As much as it came out of nowhere, I can’t say I’m all that surprised. The fact that they introduced a new character in the season finale of the show is something that might normally annoy me but I was totally charmed by Morris. He doesn’t put up with Chloe’s condescension and he appears to know how to stay on her good side. It also doesn’t hurt that he appears to be a fellow tech-nerd. More Morris in season 6, please!

Poor Martha Logan had to deliver that fake apology to her husband and all the while it looked like she had vomit caught in her throat. Then to add insult to nausea, she couldn’t think of any better way to stall for more time than to get him into bed for a brief pre-memorial tumble. Thanks for taking one for the team, Marty.

Martha had more than just seduction up her sleeve though. After Jack’s attempt at getting a confession from Logan failed, Martha successfully coerces her husband into roughing her up and admitting all of his dirty deeds. This time the recording of the confession makes it to the ears of the Attorney General and Logan gets arrested. Once again, nice job Martha! We all thought you were just a random side plot like the suicidal chick last season but you turned out to be quite useful!

All in all I’d say it was a pretty decent season finale. Not totally predictable and almost everything was resolved. The one big question we’re left to wonder aside from “Will season 6 take place in China?” is, who was the bald guy working with Logan over the phone the whole time (a.k.a. Dr. Romano)? Were we supposed to forget about him? Either way, he was the one pulling Logan’s strings the whole time and he never even landed on anyone’s radar. It’s likely he’ll return in a future season.

So perhaps the day wasn't that bad for Jack either. Afterall, the president got what he had coming and Jack was rewarded with a free cruise to China! All in a day’s work for Jack Bauer.
