Outside of a few guest spots here and there, Dustin Hoffman is clearly not known as a television personality. To star in a television series, it seems he would need a strong script and a bunch of big players attached in order to make the jump to the small screen. That looks like what he’s lined up with his next project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hoffman will star in HBO’s new series Luck, a show about the inner workings of the horse racing industry from the jockeys to the owners, gamblers to the stable hands.
HBO alum David Milch (John from Cincinnati, Deadwood) penned the series script and Michael Mann (Public Enemies, Hancock) will direct the pilot. Those are some big names attached to the new series from one of television’s best sources in HBO. It will begin production later this fall in and outside of Los Angeles.
Joining Hoffman are a number of Hollywood faces like Nick Nolte, Dennis Farina (Law and Order), Kevin Dunn (Transformers), and Jason Gedrick (Desperate Housewives).
HBO has given viewers of many inner looks into things like the drug trade, mafia and post-Katrina New Orleans. Now we’ll begin to understand how the horse racing industry functions with Dustin Hoffman leading the way.
