While FX’s new comedy series is set to close out it’s first season tomorrow night, following the fifth season finale It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the network announced today that they’re picking up the show for a second season. FX gave the series a 13-episode order and plans to premiere the second season during late summer 2010.
The League is a comedy that follows a group of friends who, in addition to obsessing over their fantasy football league, are also dealing with the challenges of being a grown-up (parenting, marriage, jobs, etc) while also clinging to some of the adolescent joys they refuse to out-grow.
“We’ve been very pleased with the creative and ratings trajectory of The League and believe it’s an excellent fit with our comedy brand,” said NickGrad, Exec Vice President of Original Programming at FX Networks. “Jackie and Jeff Schaffer are incredibly talented producers and the ensemble cast is fantastic. The performance of the show this season is reminiscent of Sunny in its first season.”
