Fan Video Of The Week - Lost: Needs More Hurley

One of my biggest complaints about this season of ‘Lost’ is the severe lack of Hurley. With the exception of a couple of episodes this season, the show has placed most of its focus on Jack, Sawyer, Kate and The Others. While their stories are all great, they’ve sort of weighed down the series in its third season. Hurley is one of my favorite characters because despite his rather sad background, his good-natured attitude and general laid-back-ness really brings a lighter side to the otherwise extremely drama-heavy show.

After the episode titled “Flashes Before Your Eyes” aired, I felt inspired to search youtube.com to find some Hurley tributes. I found two that I felt were worthy of my Fan Video of the Week award. The reason I chose two videos this week was because frankly, they’re both good videos. The problem is that neither is a great video. KajaM83’s video includes the song “The One & Only” which, while being kind of corny, is actually a pretty great choice for a Hurley tribute. The only problem with Kaja’s video is that they didn’t include any sound from the Hurley scenes. Hurley has some of the funniest lines in the show but with the song playing and the audio from the scenes cut out, the clips lose a little of their greatness.

Michnik85’s video is good because they managed to find some great Hurley moments which include the audio from the scenes. My only complaint is that they used the Forrest Gump score for the background music. While it’s a pretty score, it’s too pretty for Hurley and too easily associated with Forrest Gump. Gump was a great film character but I wouldn’t compare him with Hurley at all.

Combine the two videos and you’ve got a fantastic tribute to one of the best characters in ‘Lost’
