Fear The Walking Dead: What Nick and Ofelia's Relationship Is, According To The Actress
Fear The Walking Dead is coming toward the end of its sophomore season, and things are really shaping up in regards to the action. We’ve been given an antagonist, new allies, and even a tie-in from the web series Fear The Walking Dead: Flight 462. Although the series is still rather young in its run, something is still missing from the show: romance. While Madison and Travis are a solid couple, we haven’t seen any new connections occur in the series. Specifically, fans have been wondering which of the group Salazar’s daughter Ofelia might end up with. Mercedes Mason, who plays Ofelia, recently opened up to one of her most talked about on-screen relationships: the growing bond between Nick and Ofelia.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Mercedes Mason revealed the following,
Well this certainly seems hopeful for the young couple. Mercedes Mason has clearly fleshed out her character and her relationships, even if we haven’t been shown an overwhelming amount of screen time with her.
Ofelia has been speculated and rumored to have a budding relationship with all three of the Clark/Manawa kids. Rumors began circulating that she and Alicia would be entering into a same-sex relationship, although that seems highly unlikely at this point. We’ve seen Alicia connect to two male characters romantically thus far, and with Strand’s recent revelation as an LBGT character, it seems unlikely that three out of the seven main characters would be going through a similar character arc.
Additionally, last episode saw Ofelia and Chris connecting on the deck of Abigail, before Alicia’s buddies came to rob them of their supplies. However, it looks like this may have been a red herring, as she Ofelia and Nick’s relationship seems to be the more significant.
Personally, I’m less interested in the characters’ romantic interests as I am with their progression into deadly survivors of the apocalypse. The Walking Dead got strangely relationship-centric this past season, and I hope that Fear keeps the theme of morality and survival at the forefront of the series.
And that they bring back Alex from Flight 462. She was a bad ass.
