The Flash Season 2 Trailer Teases A Big Reveal About One Of The Characters
The Flash has been slowly been doling out short promos for Season 2 in the last few weeks, but so far there hasn’t been a lot of juicy material to chew on. Fortunately, the newest trailer for the hit CW series has provided more background on what to expect when the show returns in October, including a huge tease about dangerous metahuman Atom Smasher, the new adversary Barry Allen will battle in the season premiere.
While it’s not quite as grand as last week’s Arrow Season 4 trailer, this new preview does give fans important information on where things will pick up in the first Season 2 episode, namely how Atom Smasher (played by Adam Copeland) has arrived in Central City. In the opening seconds, we hear speedster Jay Garrick (played by Teddy Sears) explaining to Team Flash that when they created the temporal singularity in the Season 1 finale, they also opened a portal for people from Earth 2 to cross into The Flash’s main world, which we’ll call Earth 1. Cue a shot of Atom Smasher arriving through this portal, implying he will be one of several threats from Earth 2 causing trobule during the sophomore season.
Atom Smasher’s alter-ego Albert Rothstein was mentioned in the The Flash Season 1 episode “Power Outage” as one of the casualties of the particle accelerator explosion, but it sounds like his Earth 2 counterpart is not just alive but even has his own powers (super strength and size growth), and is eager to take down Earth 1’s Scarlet Speedster with those powers. When the character was announced in July, it was mentioned that Barry would need help from the S.T.A.R. Labs team to defeat him, which explains why Joe West and Cisco Ramon are shooting that weird-looking gun at him. At the end of the trailer, we get yet another look at that curious Flash Signal, which Atom Smasher watches being lit from his cozy hideout, prompting him to respond, “Show time.” This guy means business!
Another notable moment from the trailer was a shot of Firestorm about to fly into the temporal singularity, which may provide clues about why Ronnie Raymond isn’t seen with the rest of Team Flash in the preview, as well as why he won’t appear on Legends of Tomorrow. Other highlights include quick glimpses of returning Flash rogues Captain Cold and Heat Wave, another flirtatious moment between Cisco and Cold’s sister Lisa, a.k.a. Golden Glider. (am I the only one who wants to see Cisco’s Nerf gun collection?) and a blink-and-you-miss-it shot of everyone’s favorite murderous telepathic gorilla, Grodd!
The Flash Season 2 will premiere on Tuesday, October 6 in its normal timeslot at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
