Flav Gets His Roast On

On a list of the easiest people to make fun of in the world, Flavor Flav would probably rank second just ahead of Tanya Harding and right behind that guy who got caned while he was in Singapore. Everything from his oversized clocks to his football team of illegitimate children is easy fodder for mockery. He’s like a walking punchline, a rare combination of outrageous behavior and fashion faux-pas. In the immortal words of Hunter S. Thompson, “He’s too weird to live, and too rare to die.” Apparently, Comedy Central thinks so too.

According to Zap2It.com, the laugh network will feature William J. Drayton Jr. (or “Flavor Flav” to those of you not personal friends of his) as the subject of their annual celebrity roast. The former Public Enemy hype-man will follow in the path of such talented pioneers as Pamela Anderson and Jeff Foxworthy. So trashy. The joke-fest will film sometime in July, and Comedy Central plans to air it on August 12th. I’m not sure why they randomly chose that date, but I’m guess it’s because Flav didn’t have any child support payments due that day. No word on whether he’ll miss one of their baseball games, though.

I really love celebrity roasts, but I’m not really sold on this choice. How do you sit down and write a joke about Flavor Flav? Everything is so obvious and overblown! It really all depends on what comedians they trot out. Here’s to hoping we get Greg Giraldo, Patrice O’Neil, Jim Norton, and Nick Di Paolo. Unlike other comedians who politely bitch slap the roasting subject, these assholes aim for the nuts and kick with full force. So glorious.
