The Following Video Showcases Kevin Bacon's Character Ryan Hardy
As January approaches, Fox continues to remind us that The Following is one of the series set to appear on their midseason slate. The suspenseful drama joins Touch among the network's promising winter shows. One of the recent promotional videos to make its way online gives us a closer look at Kevin Bacon's character Ryan Hardy, an FBI agent with a past and a history with the show's serial killer, played by James Purefoy.
The Following stars Purefoy as Joe Carroll, a serial killer who was and is again being pursued by Bacon's Ryan Hardy. The video below shines a light on Bacon's character and includes comments from the actor as well as series creator Kevin Williamson as they discuss Hardy's past and where the character is today.
The cat and mouse aspect of Hardy and Carroll's relationship is one of the more intriguing things about this drama. It doesn't hurt that they're played by two very talented actors. I especially like the way Carroll and Hardy's work and lives are all mixed up. It's evident that this situation is very personal for both of them, especially when you take into account the relationship Hardy has or had with Carroll's wife, which Carroll appears to be fully aware of. That should offer a nice bit of complicated drama for this already very suspenseful looking story.
It also looks like there's an opportunity for a comeback story here, as it's mentioned that Hardy's not at the top of his game anymore. He was injured and has been out of commission. What state will he be in when he comes back to work? It adds an interesting twist to the story.
The Following premieres January 21 on Fox.
