Reworking a popular nineties program for television is improbable, but not impossible, as 90210 and the Boy Meets World spinoff Girl Meets World would tell you. However, if you caught a few outlets noting today that some of the characters from Full House are making their way back to television thanks to an updated series following a grown-up Stephanie and DJ, and you believed those outlets, you’ve fallen for a bunch of baloney. And not the kind you slap between two pieces of bread.
Outlets from Perez Hilton to Broadway World have spouted about the possibility of a new Full House series all day, noting that Full House showrunner Jeff Franklin recently did an interview related to the possibility. Apparently, people weren’t doing very much research to find the actual source material for the post, which happens to be a hilarious Screen Rant post discussing the pseudo potential for the sequel, back on April 1, 2013. In the article, the words April Fools are plastered across the top of the page, but that hasn't stopped people from commenting about wanting a new version of the nineties series. So, not only is a potential reboot of Full House a huge, ridiculous joke, it’s a joke that has been running around the Internet since last spring. Apparently, the rumor got rebooted thanks to a website called Disney Treasures, which was also not in on the joke, stating the article originally ran in the Newport Gazette. Uproxx tipped us off to this brouhaha and also did some research into the Newport Gazette finding it to be a very much defunct newspaper that fell apart right before the turn of the century--the 19th century.
So, if you are still holding on to the feeble hope that this series could work, I suppose you could always try to beg and plead this project into existence. It’s a good thing Jodie Sweetin is not in rehab anymore, or you’d have even more trouble on your hands. In the meantime, if you need a little nineties nostalgia, some of your favorite nineties family sitcoms will be out on DVD tomorrow, including Boy Meets World: The Complete Collection and Saved By The Bell: The Complete Collection. I know it’s no Jesse and the Rippers reunion, but since that already happened, there’s not much to complain about.
