This Game Of Thrones Super Trailer Perfectly Sets Up Season 6
After a year of waiting and pontificating about the fate of Jon Snow, Game of Thrones Season 6 will soon be upon us. The HBO megahit is one of the most watched shows on television, and fans of both the series and the novels are eager to find out what happens to the citizens of Westeros. HBO has released a small handful of trailers and scenes to help tide the community over, and now one fan has edited all of the footage we’ve been privy to into one badass super trailer. Check it out below:
This trailer is pretty damn cool, right? Youtuber ControvT did a great job at using old footage and making it a truly exciting new trailer.
Perhaps what this super trailer does best is its pacing. The footage begins at a slower build, giving us scenes and moments from the trailers which take a bit more airtime to introduce. We once again open with Jon Snow’s dead body, as we pan across Castle Black. From there, we are shown more of the stunning settings of Game of Thrones: Meereen, Winterfell, and wherever the hell Daenarys is with the Dothraki.
Things then begin to get more frantic in pace, as small scenes from the large ensemble of characters are focused upon. As the speed at which scenes are shown continues to be quicker, we’re shown the violence which makes the series so thrilling. The whole thing ends in a glorious crescendo of faces, before finally ending upon the biggest threat of them all: the White Walkers. Seriously, the team who edited the original trailers could learn a thing or two from this youtuber.
After watching the footage all together it seems that one of the biggest plot points will be around the battle in King’s Landing with the High Sparrow and his extremist followers. Cersei facilitated their rise to power for petty reasons, namely to get Margaery out of Tommen’s life and secure her place as Queen Regent. Of course, the arms and authority which she gave to the sparrows resulted in her own arrest, along with Margaery and Loras Tyrell’s. The finale saw Cersei take her walk of shame, and she is surely going to want revenge against the High Sparrow, as well as that big scary nun that messed with her during her captivity. The question is: how will they fight the faith? Perhaps she’ll have to turn to Olenna Tyrell for assistance, despite the two families’ personal vendettas.
Additionally, we’re given more footage of the White Walkers. The true enemy outside The Wall, the players of the Game are completely unaware of the true peril that Westeros is in. It currently looks like Davos, Bran, Melisandre, and The Wildlings are the only ones aware of the impending war with the dead. With Game of Thrones beginning to plan its exit strategy, perhaps we’ll see this change in Season 6.
Game of Thrones will return to HBO on Sunday, April 24th.
