George Costanza Ready To Fail Again?

The roll of George Costanza was a once in a lifetime chance, that lighting in a bottle combination of a talented actor perfectly embodying a character. The middle-aged, frequently unemployed, irritable buffoon made us smile, laugh, and sympathize with him for almost ten years. Sure, it was actually just an actor with made up dialogue, but to the viewing public at home, Jason Alexander was and always will be George Costanza. Unfortunately, this perfect part doomed Alexander to type cast hell with the likes of Ed O’Neill(Al Bundy), Dustin Diamond(Screech Powers), and Peter Billingsley(Ralphie Parker).

According to The Hollywood Reporter Alexander will make his third attempt at solo sitcom stardom with a new ABC cop comedy. The still untitled project will feature the forty seven year old actor playing an internal affairs superintendent. The roll bills the former ‘Seinfeld’ star as a guest; however, if the program is picked up, he will sign on as a regular cast member.

Former ‘CSI: NY’ guest star Sarah Lafleur will play one of the cop leads opposite Jillian Armenante(Girl Interrupted, ‘Judging Amy’). Both talented actresses made recent guest appearances on the ABC ratings powerhouse ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’

Here’s to hoping Jason Alexander follows Julia Louis-Dreyfus and finally, breaks that pesky ‘Seinfeld’ curse.
