Girls Preview: Episode 4: Hannah's Diary

Another episode of Girls airs, and once again I find myself captivated by the escapades of Hannah and her friends. Last night's episode was made even better by the appearance of Jorma Taccone's character Booth, and the equally excellent appearance by Andrew Rannells, who played Hannah's newly-out ex-boyfriend.

While The Lonely Island's Jorma Taccone's was making some not-so-subtle advances to Marnie, Book of Mormon's Andrew Rannells played Hannah's ex-boyfriend Elijah. As it turns out, Hannah's only long-term relationship was with a guy who recently discovered he's into guys. The direction of the conversation during this revelation was amusing, to say the least, and made even better by Rannells and Dunham's performances as they sat together and discussed it. Not only was the conversation, which ended with the words, "Your dad is gay," darkly funny, but also an interesting twist for Hannah, who had to leave the bar and attempt to properly adjust to this news. Given that her biggest concern going into the conversation was that she was going to end up having sex with Elijah, it's safe to say she never saw his big news coming.

I really hope Rannells comes back. If not, we can cross our fingers that things work out for Ryan Murphy's comedy pilot, in which Rannells is set to star.

Moving on things appear to be getting even more complicated next week. The episode is titled Hannah's Diary. Yes, Hannah has a diary, which seems sort of fitting in all its datedness. Of course, documented accounts of her innermost thoughts can only lead to something embarrassing.

And it looks like she might have actually found a job… except it might involve being groped. Someone got ahold of Hannah's diary. Jessa might have forgotten a key part of babysitting (actually keeping an eye on the kids). And it looks like Shoshanna might be close to cashing in her V-card. Though that guy looks like he might be a bit freaked out over what she's telling him.

Girls airs Sundays at 10:30 p.m. ET on HBO.
