New Gotham Photo Reveals A Smiling Oswald Cobblepot AKA The Penguin

Another day, another Gotham promotional photo. Tuesday's glimpse at the characters of Bruno Heller's Gotham series reveals the smirking face of Robin Lord Taylor, who plays Oswald Cobblepot, better known to Batman enthusiasts as The Penguin. Unlike the previous photos, which gave us a decent look at the characters' attire, this closeup doesn't reveal all that much other than that he's looking particularly snazzy and rocking that bow tie.
Gotham will serve as a prequel to Batman's era in Gotham City. While Bruce Wayne is just a kid during this point of the story, the series will center on Detective -- future Police Commissioner -- Jim Gordon, as well as the origin stories of some of the villains that helped put Gotham on the map. That includes Cobblepot. When we learned of Taylor's casting, WB announced that Oswald Cobblepot is a man with the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal. He's a low-level psychopath for the gangster Fish Mooney (played by Jada Pinkett Smith). he hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor.
The latest photo comes courtesy of Gotham's official Twitter. I like to think that the bow tie represents that polite demeanor. And the look does give Cobblepot that faint trace of Penguinishness.
Now that we've seen Cobblepot, hopefully we'll get a look at Smith as Jada Pinkett Smith.
Cobblepot's photo reveal follow the reveal of three other characters in the series:
Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee):
Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova):

Fox also released the official logo for the series, along with a lengthy synopsis, which you can read here.
In addition to Jada Pinkett Smith's Fish Mooney, we're still waiting for the character photos for young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) and the series' star, Ben McKenzie, who's playing Jim Gordon. Also among the cast are Zabryna Guevara, who's playing Captain Essen, and Erin Richards, who's on board to play an emergency room doctor named Barbara who's also Jim Gordon's fiancé.
Here's part of the series description:
Growing up in Gotham City's surrounding suburbs, JAMES GORDON (Ben McKenzie, “Southland,” “The O.C.”) romanticized the city as a glamorous and exciting metropolis where his late father once served as a successful district attorney. Now, two weeks into his new job as a Gotham City detective and engaged to his beloved fiancée, BARBARA KEAN (Erin Richards, “Open Grave,” “Breaking In”), Gordon is living his dream – even as he hopes to restore the city back to the pure version he remembers it was as a kid.

Kelly put her life-long love of movies, TV and books to greater use when she joined CinemaBlend as a freelance TV news writer in 2006, and went on to serve as the site’s TV Editor before joining the staff full-time in 2011 and moving over to other roles at the site. At present, she’s an Assistant Managing Editor who spends much of her time brainstorming and editing features, analyzing site data, working with writers and editors on content planning and the workflow, and (of course) continuing to obsess over the best movies and TV shows (those that already exist, and the many on the way). She graduated from SUNY Cortland with BA in Communication Studies and a minor in Cinema Studies. When she isn't working, she's probably thinking about work, or reading (or listening to a book), and making sure her cats are living their absolute best feline lives.
