No New Gotham For Weeks, But Check Out This Intense Trailer
It must be DC TV hiatus season. First The Flash heads off for a couple weeks, then Arrow followed suit. Now Gotham is taking a little break, but don’t worry, Fox isn’t leaving fans empty handed. Check out this promo teasing what to expect from the remaining episodes of the season. Take a look!
While all the footage from the trailer is from previous episodes, it effectively conveys the intensity the show will be delivering when it returns in April. Originally Gotham received a 16-episode order, but this was extended to 22 episodes last October. That leaves only four episodes left to air this season. With March Madness coming up, Fox may have decided to keep put these last episodes on hold since many will be focused on the basketball playoffs. Even if that isn’t the case, the network would have had to delay the episodes anyway in order to air the season finale in May alongside most of the other series. If they aired the rest now, the season would be finished on March 30. With May sweeps approaching, there’s no way Fox is going to let their most popular new show air repeats during that period.
Spoilers for the most recent episode “Everyone Has a Cobblepot” are ahead!
Monday’s episode saw new developments for several of the main characters. Jim Gordon was able to blackmail Commissioner Loeb into handing over the file of leverage he had on Harvey Bullock, Fish Mooney (fitted with a new blue eye) became Dr. Francis Dulmacher’s, a.k.a. The Dollmaker, right-hand woman and Riddler grew more angry as Miss Kringle found herself a new boyfriend. As for Penguin… well, he just demonstrated his ruthlessness further by tricking a wife into killing her husband (both of whom were working for Loeb) for a plane ticket, and then shot her afterwards. Heath Ledger’s Joker would have been impressed.
When the show returns, we’ll likely see the conclusion of several plot threads, as well as a few setups for Season 2. Among others, Gordon will continue to go down a darker path in his mission to take down corruption in the GCPD and city government, Bruce Wayne will try to stop Wayne Enterprises, Riddler will take his first big step towards villainy and Penguin will seize even more power in the Gotham City underworld…or maybe get knocked down another peg, but we all know where he ends up, so that would only be a temporary setback.
Gotham will return with new episodes on April 13 at 8/7c on Fox.
