Grey's Izzie Not Going Anywhere
It almost feels as though there has been more drama going on with the actors in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ than there is among the characters in the show. The buzz about Isaiah Washington’s use of the three-lettered-F-word finally died down just in time for a new issue to surface: Contract renegotiations.
Earlier last week ABC reported that Katherine Heigl, who plays Izzie Stevens in the hit drama series, pulled out of contract negotiations with the network. They went on to assure fans that they had a long-term contract with the actress and said they increased her compensation “significantly.” EW.com reported that Heigl released a statement on Thursday criticizing ABC for releasing the information about her contract with the show.
''I am embarrassed that this has become a public matter and disappointed that Touchstone felt it necessary to divulge private employment information. I had hoped I would be able to deal with this issue confidentially with my bosses,” Heigl said, “I dropped out of the renegotiation simply because I wanted to treat myself with the respect I was not getting from them. No matter how unhappy I am about their decision to respond to this publicly, I continue to be passionate about and committed to this character.''
There are two things that don’t surprise me here. The first being that Heigl went forward and made a statement about the issue. She was probably the most vocal of all of the actors when it came to discussing what Washington said about T.R. Knight. The second is that Heigl feels she’s worth more than she was originally promised for the role. Since co-starring on ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ she’s also been working on her film career which includes the upcoming Judd Apatow comedy, Knocked Up. Heigl’s character in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is widely adored by fans of the show, which are no doubt relieved to know that she’s not being written off anytime soon.
