HBO Orders Fashion-Themed Comedy Pilot Starring Tea Leoni

Tea Leoni may be returning to television as HBO has given the green light to a half-hour comedy pilot called Spring/Fall, in which Leoni is set to star.

According to Deadline, Spring/Fall is set in New York City with a focus on the fashion world. Leoni has been cast to play a woman partnered with another woman with “different approaches to career, family and friendship.” Six Feet Under’s Kate Robin wrote the script for the pilot and she’ll be exec-producing the series along with Leoni and documentary filmmaker R.J. Cutler.

Leoni hasn’t done television for more than a decade. Her last credited appearance in a scripted TV show was on X-Files, which starred her husband David Duchovny. Before that, she starred in the comedy series The Naked Truth.

Now, it's probably way too soon to start this kind of speculation but just for fun: Should HBO pick this pilot up, this could put Leoni in ratings competition with her husband. David Duchovny stars in Showtime’s Californication, which wraps up its fourth season this Sunday night. Assuming Californication returns for a fifth season and HBO orders Spring/Fall, it wouldn’t be impossible for both shows to end up airing against each other as both pay-cable channels are known to air comedy series on Sunday nights.
