HBO Series Win Multiple 2011 Scream Awards

Thanks in large part to HBO, the 2011 Scream Awards had some small-screen representation among the winners of the awards. The Scream Awards haven’t aired yet, so if you don’t want to be spoiled on the winners, read no further and tune in to Spike TV tomorrow night to see the ceremony. For those of you who want to know who won, read on!

While the Scream Awards are mostly a celebration of sci-fi, fantasty, and horror on the big screen, there were some TV winners on the list, all of which happen to be from HBO series. True Blood and Game of Thrones managed to win a couple of awards.

Game of Thrones took home the prize for Best TV Show, as well as Best Supporting Actor for Peter Dinklage’s excellent portrayal of Tyrion Lannister. Meanwhile the award for Breakout Performance Female, which went to Emilia Clarke. The English beauty did the role of Daenerys Targaryen justice in the first season of HBO’s adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones.

Alexander Skarsgård won for Best Horror Actor for his role as Eric in True Blood. And with a vampire win for True Blood, it seems only fitting that a werewolf should also take home an award. Joe Manganiello won for Breakout Performance Male for his performance as Alcide. Skarsgard and Manganiello aren’t the only True Blood cast-members to win. The whole cast has cause to celebrate as the series won for Best Ensemble.

And while not exactly a TV win, it’s still worth noting that The Walking Dead won for Best Graphic Novel or Comic Book. The AMC series, which is based on the comic by the same name, premiered last night, and featured one of the creepiest scenes I've ever seen on a TV series. I’m referring to the moment when Andrea was trapped in the bathroom of the camper and a walker made its way in. The suspense was great, the make-up was fantastic, and the whole scene played out perfectly. That's great horror TV right there. Hopefully the series will get more recognition at next year’s Scream Awards.

The 2011 Scream Awards air Tuesday, October 18 (9:00–11:00 PM, ET/PT) on Spike TV. You can read the full list of winners here.
