Hannibal Gets An Extended Preview: A Killer's Legend Is Reborn
NBC's been busy the last few weeks finally pushing Hannibal, the latest project from Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller, in anticipation of its premiere in three weeks time. To the day. The network has released several teases for the small screen adaptation of Thomas Harris' most iconic character, including one just the other day titled "A Killer Reborn." As it turns out, the brief spot was just a small taste of the full two and a half minute "Killer's Legend Reborn" trailer.
Oh, and there's also a PG version on the Hannibal website but, well, who wants to watch that? Advise some viewer discretion already and let's get on with the extended look...
That spot was everything I would hope for from Fuller and count me as a big fan. I loved how the extended look really showcased the almost operatic nature of the gory violence (similar to Demme's take on The Silence of the Lambs) while adding in the more surrealistic sequences from Graham's point of view that, although a bit darker than usual, are a signature of the talented writer. The production design also looks incredible, from Lecter's lavish lair - sorry - office, to classic horror film homages.
I hate to sound melodramatic but if NBC even thinks of dropping Hannibal before the full season is aired (or some other signature knee-jerk, bush-league scheduling move), I will club them and eat their bones. Wait. That's Montgomery Burns, not Doctor Lecter. Either way, I'd be having Peacock for dinner! What kind of wine goes well with extravagantly feathered birds? Hannibal premieres Thursday, April 4 at 10:00 p.m. ET on NBC. It stars Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen, Laurence Fishburne, Caroline Dhavernas, Gina Torres and Anna Chlumsky.
