Here's The Guardians Of The Galaxy And Friends Mash-Up You've Always Wanted
Sometimes the internet offers its own brand of genius. It happened this week when an avid Youtube user mashed up shots from Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy along with The Rembrandts', “I’ll Be There For You,” more commonly known as the Friends theme song, to create the impeccable “Friends of the Galaxy.” Check it out, below.
This video has everything. It has Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, dancing to his Awesome Mix, Vol. 1. It has big Groot and sapling Groot, Gamora in a prison jumpsuit (yellow is the new black) and Rocket holding a gun that probably weighs more than his body weight. It’s a pretty good trip down memory lane for fans of the movie, but more importantly, Robert Jones edits the video in a manner that makes “I’ll Be There For You" seem particularly fitting.
I mean, really, this is brilliant. All he really needed to do was work a little editing magic with the footage and it fits perfectly.
I suppose you could argue that Peter Quill’s a moderately successful thief at the beginning of the flick, so his job's not exactly a joke. However, he does get thwarted with the orb, which sets off the events in the movie. His love life also sucks, and features a lot of meaningless one-night stands, but it’s not like he’s the awkward guy who creeps out women. I wouldn’t exactly call his love life “D.O.A.”… at least not until Gamora comes along, and he can’t figure out how to get a date with the alien.
The video also throws in the right font to make the “Friends of the Galaxy” a true mash-up between the popular movie and the famous TV show.
The end result is an amusing, minute-long video that should have you clapping along, or at the very least, paying attention. If you need more Guardians of the Galaxy in your life, check out this epic outtake from the Blu-ray and DVD release. And if you need more Friends mash-ups in your life, this video is hardly the first. Sherlock also has a pretty great theme song and footage mash-up that works similarily.
