I remember growing up and watching the Discovery Channel and TLC’s takes on history. The reenactments were cool for a kid, and hid the fact I was learning a few things. With the popularity of Zack Snyder’s vision of graphic novels made into film (300 and Watchmen) the History Channel has tapped into that aesthetic to tell accurate retellings of famous historical battles.
Done in the style of 300, complete with slow motion and stop frame shots (although blood is depicted as cartoony to keep the show from a TVMA rating) Battles BC looks to possibly be the most engaging look at the historic fights of great men. From Hannibal to Caesar, and even a little Moses thrown in, the show looks amazing.
