House Chooses Three Series Regulars

If you’re a fan of House, you already know that Dr. House is in the process of interviewing doctors to replace Foreman, Cameron and Chase. In the second episode of the season, House narrowed down the list of forty applicants through a series of tests ranging from where they were sitting in the room to what kind of risks they took while diagnosing a patient. Recent casting news may clue us in as to which three doctors will make the grade. If you don’t want to know who they are, read no further!

Ok, you’ve been warned. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kal Penn, Olivia Wilde and Peter Jacobson have been brought on board with the Fox series as regulars. Kal Penn is Kutner, a.k.a. #6 and then #9. Olivia Wilde plays #13. She’s the hot chick who didn’t give up her name because she’s trying not to get too attached. Jacobson is Taub, the plastic surgeon who suggested giving the patient a boob job as a way to disguise the scars that would result from some necessary lung surgery (the patient was trying to keep her illness from NASA, where she hoped to be employed).

The casting choices aren’t all that surprising. Not only did their characters each stand out among the other hopeful contenders, but also each of the actors has some recent TV work under their belts. Kal Penn, whom is most memorable for his role as Kumar in Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle, appeared in the sixth season of 24 for a couple of episodes (until he tried to throw down with Jack Bauer – bad move, Penn.). Olivia Wilde was in The O.C. and the short-lived NBC series, The Black Donnellys. Jacobson played Kenny, the a-hole-(ex)-husband in the mini-series, The Starter Wife and has also appeared in Boston Legal and Law & Order.

If these are the three that made the cut, that means Amber, the ambitious (or obnoxious, you decide) tattling blonde doctor who seemed to impress House with her “I’m only out for me” attitude will inevitably be dropped from the shortlist at some point in the future. Either that or the actor just hasn’t been picked up as a regular yet.
