IFC Orders Two New Original Comedies, Bunk And Comedy Bang! Bang!
From the sound of it, IFC is looking to strike while the iron is hot. With some great buzz surrounding the returns of their original comedy series The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret and Portlandia, the network is set to build on their line-up of original comedies with two more series.
IFC sent word today that they’ve ordered 10 half-hour episodes of a scripted comedy series Comedy Bang! Bang! and 10 episodes of a series tentatively titled Bunk, with the aim to get both shows in front of our faces on the cable channel this June for a one-hour original comedy block.
Set to be hosted by Scott Aukerman, Comedy Bang! Bang! is described as a sketch variety show which would feature celebrity guests, humorous sketches and animation. Meanwhile, Bunk will be hosted by stand-up comedian Kurt Braunohler and is a game-show parody which will feature “a rotating line-up of comedian contestants performing absurd comedy challenges.” Given the nature of both shows, it sounds like they’ll be a good fit for each other set up back to back in an hour-long comedy block.
For those of you who are already on board with IFC, and Portlandia in particular, the comedy series made its grand return for Season 2 last Friday, along with Todd Margaret. It seems IFC is aiming to make us laugh and given what they’ve offered so far, they’re doing a pretty good job.
