IFC Teases Scott Aukerman's Comedy Bang! Bang! With A Ten-Minute Sneak Peek

Comedy Bang! Bang! is a new addition to IFC's summer line-up as well as another venture into original television programming for the Independent Film Channel. Joining the network's other original comedies, like The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret and Portlandia as well as the new game-show spoof Bunk, CB!B! is a mix between a late night talk show and variety show, featuring celebrity guests, sketches and even some animation.
Hosted by creator Scott Aukerman, and featuring band leader Reggie Watts, the show is based off Aukerman's successful podcast of the same name, and IFC shared a clip from the new series last week that had guest Zach Galifianakis trying to imagine what it would be like if dogs could talk. Too bad for Zach, he can anthropomorphize the dogs but can't seem to get over that final hurdle and actually make them speak. Needless to say, it's quite bizarre. And the brief teases that IFC has just released are just as odd and certainly hint at the kind of comedy one can expect from the televised version of Comedy Bang! Bang!.
So that was weird. We did get a glimpse of Amy Poehler visiting the show and, well, laughing (not to mention that book having a chuckle) but I wouldn't say that the short clip was the best possible showcase for the clearly oddball comedy. I mean, you do get a sense of how weird it will be but it's so short that it doesn't showcase anything besides the overall tone. An overall tone of WTF? However, IFC has also released this 'sneak peek' which at almost ten minutes definitely offers a much better sample of what to expect (or you know, you could listen to Aukerman's past podcasts) and I have to admit, the bit with Adam Scott and PF Tompkins had me laughing. Take a look.
Sneak Peek
Prior to CB!B!, Scott Aukerman was a writer and performer on David Cross and Bob Odenkirk's Mr. Show, he hosted IFC's Comedy Death Ray and he was also key in developing Zach Galifianakis' Between Two Ferns. His band leader, Reggie Watts is also an accomplished comedian and musician and you can see him in his own comedy special Reggie Watts: Live in Central Park on May 11 on Comedy Central. Comedy Bang! Bang! premieres on Friday, June 8 at 10 p.m. ET on IFC.
