Inside Amy Schumer And Broad City Have Been Renewed By Comedy Central
With Amy Schumer becoming a bigger name, I wasn’t sure if her Comedy Central series Inside Amy Schumer would last over the long haul. However, it looks like the call to the big screen isn’t beckoning too hard, yet. This week, Comedy Central announced that both of its female-led comedy programs will return to the schedule for another season. That’s right, Inside Amy Schumer has been renewed for Season 5, while Broad City has gotten a 2-season pick-up from the cabler, and will return for both Season 4 and Season 5.
Here’s the scoop on Amy Schumer’s show. If you notice above that I mentioned Season 5 and are thinking, “Wait, I think I’ve only actually seen three seasons of this show,” you’d be correct. Inside Amy Schumer actually got an early renewal, a premise that networks with shows that have big budgets and long shoot times (see: Black Sails) often favor. Obviously, Inside Amy Schumer isn't nearly as expensive as the aforementioned shows, so the early renewal was likely made to show how much the network supports its half-hour series. Lucky you, Amy Schumer, lucky you. If you’d like to actually watch Season 4 before Season 5 hits the schedule more than a year from now, have no fear, Inside Amy Schumer will return in April of 2016. We’ll bring you the exact date as soon as we can weasel it out of Comedy Central.
This brings us to Broad City. Obviously, as the two-season renewal indicates, the Broad City pick-up is a big deal. The show, which stars Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson as two besties who get up to unusual shenanigans has been a bit of a critical darling for the network and even features Hannibal Buress. It also does pretty well in its timeslot, with Comedy Central noting it is the #1 series with men between 18-24 when it airs new originals, so that’s pretty cool. Like Inside Amy Schumer, the double renewal for Broad City has come early, as Season 3 is only expected to hit the schedule on February 17.
Comedy Central has long been a male-centric network, and while Inside Amy Schumer and Broad City both obviously bring in large male audiences, as well, it’s great to see a slew of female comedians gaining more prominence with their own cable vehicles. If you haven’t given either series a shot, they are both very different, with Amy Schumer’s show focusing more on sketch comedy and Broad City featuring two-twentysomethings who totally don’t have their shit together.
We’ll let you know as soon as Comedy Central confirms Inside Amy Schumer’s premiere date. In the meantime, new episodes of Broad City will hit the schedule on Wednesday, February 17 at 10 p.m. ET.
