JAG: The Complete Series Collector's Edition Will Hit DVD In December
NBC’s decision to cut JAG early in its run has proved profitable for CBS over the last decade, as the series allowed for the eye network to spin-off of the popular Navy law-based series, with NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles. However, JAG was quite popular in its own right, running for nine seasons on the network. In 2010, NBC and CBS worked out a deal to package all ten seasons of the hit series together, and now Jag: The Complete Series Collector’s Edition is coming to DVD for the first time.
Since there has been a JAG: The Complete Series set in the past, I really wish they would have cleaned up the picture and traded up to Blu-ray for this round at bat. The only reason I can think of that explains why this didn’t happen is that most of JAG’s audience base isn’t super excited about trading up to HD picture anytime soon. Still, the Collector’s Edition is fairly impressive, boasting 56 DVDs of content, as well as a bonus disc for extras. CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Media Distribution have teamed up for the release, which will be available for purchase on December 11.
The high point of the Collector’s Edition should be the packaging, which looks very neatly put together, and the 38-page manual, which features trivia, fun facts, and some background information about JAG. The bonus disc will even feature some never before-seen interviews and behind-the-scenes footage. All in all, if you are a lover of JAG this looks like it will be a pretty nice boxed set, but it doesn’t run cheaply. The set retails for $359 in the U.S. and $394 in Canada. If you already own any of the series or are just a casual fan, this may not be the complete series set for you.
