Jet Blue Folk Hero To Host A Reality Show... Maybe
Who doesn’t daydream about grabbing a couple of beers and exiting their career via an inflatable slide only to be offered their own reality TV show? Alright, maybe this is a newly formed fantasy for some, inspired by the man who actually did it. Word is, the maybe-former Jet Blue flight attendant Steven Slater's slide from an airplane could be the start of a TV career.
Slater made headlines last week when he abandoned his post as a flight attendant following an alleged altercation with a passenger. Some are calling him a folk-hero due to his dramatic exit, which involved swearing over the plane’s intercom and then exiting the aircraft via the inflatable slide. Could his fifteen minutes of fame spiral into a brand new career? It seems like a possibility.
According to TMZ, their “well placed industry sources” say Stone Entertainment is pursuing Slater to host a reality show in which “various disgruntled workers quit their jobs in extravagant ways.”
TMZ went on to say that the deal will probably disappear if it turns out that Slater’s story of what happened on the plane is a hoax. They’re skeptical and I’m inclined to agree. I love a good quitting story as much as the next person but there’s a good chance at least some of what happened on that plane has been embellished. Then again, that’s probably the case with most folk hero stories and there’ve been lamer (and more staged-sounding) reality shows that have made it to air without the momentum of a story like Slater's.
