Jim Herzfeld Introduces NBC to Changing Positions.
Who didn’t love the saga of Gaylord M Focker though the movies Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers? There was something in those movies that every couple/man/woman/parent could identify with. And with the decidedly crappy group of sitcoms currently airing, I was thrilled to hear that the writer of these hit movies has been called upon by NBC to get them another hit. Since Earl, The Office and 30 Rock clearly need a better 30 min partner than Kath & Kim, I’m hoping they bust this out quickly.
Yahoo News reports that the similarities to Fockers will be numerous. “Changing Positions, from Jim Herzfeld, centers on a Wall Street guy in his late 30s who loses everything and is forced, along with his wife and their teen kids, to move in with his parents. They are a sexually active couple who live in a Hollywood Hills compound after amassing a fortune making (and starring in) instructional sex videos.”
Who doesn’t dig a little Senior Citizen love? Okay, I don’t – and though my grandparents weren’t sex video stars, they didn’t refrain from discussing such topics in front of me, my siblings, and our cousins. It didn’t necessarily damage our collective psyche, but I wouldn’t say it was exactly fun for any of us either. I’ll just paraphrase a comment by Adam Sandler from Big Daddy, who wants to think about “old balls?”
NBC is desperately in need of a new show to fill the void that K&Kis currently occupying. Since this maybe-hit is even written by the genius who penned the movies, I think it will be a hit.
