Julie Benz Signed On For CBS Pilot

It seems Michael Chiklis isn’t the only No Ordinary Family star seeking alternate employment, should ABC opt not to renew the drama series. Julie Benz, who stars opposite Chiklis in NoF has been cast in a CBS drama pilot created by Susannah Grant.

According to Deadline, Benz has been cast in the currently untitled drama Susannah Grant drama pilot, which centers on a surgeon named Michael (played by Patrick Wilson), “whose life is changed forever when his ex-wife (Jennifer Ehle), a doctor running a free clinic, dies and begins teaching him what life is all about from the hereafter.” Benz will play Michael’s sister. She’s described as an overwhelmed single mom with a big heart. By that description, the role sounds a little like Benz’ character Rita in Showtime’s Dexter (except hopefully minus the history of abuse).

Like Michael Chiklis’ role in the pilot Vince Uncensored (which is also for CBS), Benz’ part in the Susannah Grant pilot is in second position to her role in No Ordinary Family. While I’ve been enjoying No Ordinary Family and would like to see it stick around, I like that there’s a still a chance we’ll be seeing Benz and Chiklis on the primetime line-up next season even if it means on different shows on the same network. We’ll have to wait and see how things work out for NoF and whether or not either of these pilots get picked up.
